A
great number of people, including the rich, have experienced devastation in one
aspect of their lives: many people are still experiencing devastations that do
not allow them to measure up to social standards.
Some
people could work and not get paid; some aspire to do things but lack the
abilities and all efforts to use available means always prove abortive; some
cannot even locate any solution to the challenges of their lives.
Then,
this poses the question of whether ‘God
really answers prayers’ – in the minds of the majority.
In
Psalm 65:1-4, there was a confession
that read, “O God, it is right for us to praise you in Zion and keep our promises
to you, because you answer prayers. People everywhere will come to you on account
of their sins. Our faults defeat us, but you forgive them. Happy are those whom
you choose, whom you bring to live in your sanctuary. We shall be satisfied
with the good things of your house, the blessings of your sacred Temple”.
TEV.
God’s Kingdom
principles do not change, but our
faults defeat us…
From
the scriptures, above, one should note that ‘sin’ was mentioned as something
that defeats people.
Sins
cause our prayers to be of no effect and blockade our prayers from God. The reason many people do not
receive answers to their prayers is ‘sin’, because no one – born of God sins, 1 John 5:18. Sin only brings reproach to many people: whereas,
righteousness exalts a nation, Prov
14:34.
There
is another thing, worthy of note, which could hinder answer to prayers. It is
the test of faith. The Bible made us to know that God knows our strength and weaknesses, as such, He does not want to
give what might cause His children to fall-short of their salvation: hence, He
causes their trials, temptations, and challenges to bring out the best in them
before the answers to their prayers are finally released, James 1:2-4.
Other
things that could cause hindrances to answers of our prayers (also) are principalities and powers; spiritual
wickedness in high places. This third reason of why answers to prayers are
delayed could interfere with the life of any person. They lack respect; they
categorise everyone (to be meat for their
food) except those that they have tried and found nothing to hold against
them; and they are relentless.
Notwithstanding,
those who put their trust in God
(absolutely) will be able to upturn the manipulations of the devil and his
agents into their favour. This principalities and powers are known for accusing
people before God, as well as,
stirring God’s anger against a
person by making him/her to commit sins so that God will punish the person who sins: once God is angry with a person, this set of hindrance may have a upper
hand over the life of that person.
How do we know that God
answers prayers? …for us to put our trust in Him the more
One
lecturer at the LIFE Theological
Seminary, Ikorodu, Lagos-Nigeria, Dr.
Bukola Oluwagbemiga, asked a
question in order to motivate his students to have faith in God.
“How many of you had received answers to your
needs without even praying but by mere thinking about those needs?” He
asked and the whole class signified by raising their hands. This tells us that God already knows what we need. It is
just that any of the three reasons listed above may be responsible for the
delay of answers to ‘your’ prayers.
Jesus Christ also confirmed to us that God, our Father, in Heaven knows of all
that we need. Hence, we should not be obsessed by our desires. “25,
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or
what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the
life more than meat, and the body than raiment?... 27, Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?...
30, Wherefore, if God so clothe the
grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall
he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?... 32, (For after all these things do the
Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these
things”. Matt 6:25, 27, 30, 32,
KJV.
God created all things in the universe:
it should be noted that whatever science discovered and discovers has been in
existence. Therefore, science cannot say that God does not exist: nothing came into being by itself, except God who was not created but had been in
existence from eternity and will also be in existence till eternity. He can do all things.

What to do to receive
answers to our prayers?
Having
known the causes of delay to answers of prayers, we need to also know how we
could compel answers to our prayer.
1.We
should forsake our sins and turn to God
for salvation, 2 Chron 7:14.
2.The
Kingdom of God should be our primary
focus, Matt 6:33.
3.We
should guard against the devil by protecting our salvation, jealously, Phil 2:12.
4.We
should be (both) the hearers and doers of the word of God, James 1:22-25.
5.We should, always, commit our
ways/plans into the hands of God, James 4:10.
6.We
should ask through the name of Jesus and with faith, John 14:9-14.
7.We
should be consistent in prayer, 1 Thess
5:17.
An important decision
to make you in ‘sync’ with God
There
are only two ways to living life: being on God’s
side or being on the side of the devil. We can, gladly, tell you that it will
pay you to be on God’s side by
accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, after which you will begin to enjoy friendship with the Holy Spirit.
Why
not give it a try to see whether the Holy
Spirit will truly relate with you or not? You must, however, do the prayer
(below) with all sincerity of heart.“And
there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that
has been given among men, by which we must be saved”. Acts
4:12, NASB
Prayer:Father thank you
for saving me. I accept Jesus Christ
as my Lord and Saviour; I confess that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself.
Grant me the enablement to work with you, faithfully, all the days of my life.
In Jesus name I prayed, amen.
We congratulate you,
but, please:
1.Join
a church for constant fellowship.
2.Get
your own Bible that you can read, everyday.
3.Become
a worker in that church.
4.Talk
to people about Jesus Christ.
5.Do
the instructions of the Holy Spirit, especially, regarding the words of God (the Bible).
6.Ask
questions about Christian faith from available and reliable sources.
